The Rev. Christian Wood

Father Chris was born and raised in Queens, NY. A lifelong Episcopalian, he grew up going to his local parish Grace Church Whitestone. At Grace Church, Father Chris began his journey with Our Lord. Growing up, he enjoyed playing baseball and rooting for his beloved N.Y. Mets and N.Y. Giants.

Father Chris attended John Jay College of Criminal Justice (CUNY) in New York City. He earned a B.S. in Legal Studies and intended to become a New York City Police Officer. However, while waiting for the Police Academy to begin, he took a full-time position as a Videographer and Editor. There Father Chris enjoyed much success and even edited two independent films, both award-winning.

In 2009, Redeemer Sarasota called Father Chris to serve as Youth Minister, then in 2013, the church sent Father Chris to Seminary. He attended Nashotah House and earned an M.Div. After Seminary, Fr. Chris returned to Redeemer as a priest.

On February 1, 2022, Father Chris began as the Rector of Saint John’s Episcopal Church and Parish Day School. He comes to Saint John’s with his wife Kate, and three children, Maggie-Jane “M.J.” (12 yrs. old), Michael (9 yrs. old), and Martha (6 yrs. old). Father Chris loves to play softball, go on long walks, cook for friends, and spend time with his family. Father Chris’ main goal is to make Jesus Christ known, hallowed, and adored throughout Tampa.
