At St. John’s, we celebrate the major feasts and holy days of the Church year throughout the year. Often called “red-letter days” because they were traditionally printed in red on church calendars, these observances mark significant moments in the life of Christ and commemorate the apostles, evangelists, and saints whose witness has shaped the life of the Church.

Keeping these feasts is an ancient Christian practice and a way of allowing the Church’s calendar to shape our common life. In gathering for the Eucharist on these days, we remember that our worship is part of something much larger than ourselves, joining Christians across generations in celebrating the mighty acts of God and giving thanks for the faithful witnesses who have gone before us.

When a major feast falls on a weekday, Mass is ordinarily celebrated at 12:15 p.m. in the Rev. John R. Peterson Chapel. Feasts falling on Saturdays are ordinarily celebrated at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel. Certain major feasts are observed with a Solemn High Mass at 6:00 p.m. in the Church.
