Parish Breakfast and Sandwich Sunday: August 21

 

Sunday, August 21 marks our first monthly Parish Breakfast for the fall. Join us
between the 9:15 and 11:15 a.m. services
 in the Parish Hall for food and fellowship! 
 
We will also prepare sandwiches and bag lunches for the patrons of Faith Café during this time. All parishioners are invited to help. Thanks to the Gray family for being our hosts this month!

 

Sunday School Kick-Off: September 11

 

Our Fall Sunday School Program will kick-off on Sunday, September 11 in the Parish Hall. The program is available to children from 3 years old through 5th grade, and takes place every Sunday during the 9:15 a.m. service. During Sunday School, children receive a Bible lesson that corresponds with the weekly readings, do crafts, eat a snack, and do other activities to strengthen their faith and teach them about their Christian heritage. Women’s Mid Morning Bible Study Resumes September 6

 

On Tuesday, September 6, the Women’s Mid Morning Bible Study will gather to begin a study of “The Gospel According to Luke.”  We will be using the study guide Luke for Everyone by N. T. Wright.

 

The group invites all interested women to join them in the Church Sanctuary from 10:15 to 11:30 a.m. on alternate Tuesdays. On September 6, Mary Jane Schenck will facilitate the first discussion, which will focus on Luke 1 and 2.  For more information, you may contact Joan McKay at mckayjhm@aol.com or Pat Wilson at 644.4640 or

Events and Announcements
Services for Families Resume August 28

 

Our monthly services for families with small children will recommence on Sunday, August 28, in the Parish Hall and continue on the fourth Sunday of each month until March 27, 2017.

 

Backpack Blessing Planned

 

We will have our annual Backpack Blessing on Sunday, August 28. All students are invited to bring their backpacks to the 9:15 a.m. family service in the Parish Hall to have them blessed for the new school year!

Volunteers Needed for Children’s Ministry and Parish Events

 

Are you interested in becoming more involved in the community here at St. John’s? The Children’s Ministry has a number of exciting events planned for this fall and all sorts of opportunities for participation. Sandwich Sunday Hosts Needed

 

Each month, we make sandwiches and bag lunches for the patrons of Faith Café to take with them after they eat a hot meal at the Café.We are in need of monthly hosts for 2016 on October 16, November 20, and December 18. Hosting means purchasing supplies (costs are reimbursed by St. John’s), helping facilitate the assembly line, and delivering sandwiches to Faith Café. If you are interesting in hosting on one of the dates, please contact Sandwich Sunday Coordinator Cindy Martin at

School Supplies Needed for Cornerstone Kids

 

As the new school year approaches, your generous support is requested for the children at Cornerstone Kids. The goal is to raise $1,500 to cover the cost of backpacks and school supplies for 35 children.
