Y

Lessons and Carols This Sunday!

On Sunday, December 4, a service of Nine Lessons and Carols will take place in the church at 5:00 p.m. This service was drawn up by Edward White Benson, Bishop of Truro, in 1880 for use in the then temporary wooden cathedral, with four hundred people attending at 10:00 p.m. The service was later adapted for use by King’s College, Cambridge, who made it popular through their annual television broadcast, which continues to this day. Here at St. John’s, there will be an opportunity to hear music by Harold Darke, John Tavener, John Gardner and William Mathias. The service will be followed by a reception in the Parish Hall.

EYC will not meet so youth may attend the service.

Annual Christmas Concert: Sunday, December 18

Our Annual Christmas Concert will take place on Sunday, December 18, at 5:00 p.m. This concert, begun as a one-time event in 2007, has very much become a part of the St. John’s Christmas tradition, and draws a large crowd. There will be carols of the season for audience and choir, and music by Francis Poulenc, Andrew Carter and Peter Warlock. The Christmas Concert will be followed by a reception in the Parish Hall, to which all are warmly invited.

Children and Youth
EYC at Lessons and Carols

The Christmas Service of Lessons and Carols is one of the most beautiful and traditional Anglican services we have, and we do it right at St. John’s!  We will not have our regular meetings this Sunday, December 4 so that we can all attend this service with our families.  The Lessons and Carols service will take place in the church from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m.

Children’s and Youth Ministry Dates
Please note, the 2017-2018 Calendar of Events and Key Dates for the Children’s and Youth Ministries will be available in January. These dates will also be covered in our bi-monthly e-newsletter from the youth and children’s ministries, the Scoop. If you would like to be added to the Scoop mailing list, please contact Whitney Wolf.

Seeking Photographer to Capture Christmas Pageant

If you’re planning to attend the 4:00 p.m. service on Christmas Eve and would be interested in being one of our designated pageant photographers, please contact Whitney Wolf. You don’t need to be a professional photographer – just someone with a decent camera (i.e. not a cell phone) who might enjoy capturing a few shots of the performance, to be used in church communications and on the website.
