Alvie is a life-long Episcopalian and a Tampa native. She was baptized at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, and she and her husband, Lee, married there in 1985. They joined St. John’s shortly thereafter. Their four children and two grandchildren were baptized at St. John’s. Their oldest daughter, Virginia Casey Galavis, graduated from St. John’s School, and Virginia and her family are now active members of the Church. Alvie and Lee’s youngest son, Jack, served as an acolyte.
Through the years, Alvie has been active in numerous ministries including teaching Sunday School, leading Vacation Bible School and serving on the Children’s Ministry Renovation Team, Children’s Ministry Committee and the Every Member Canvass. Currently she serves on the Holy Hospitality Team and the Church Life Committee. Husband Lee serves as an usher.
Alvie graduated from the University of Georgia with a B.A. in English. For the past 15 years she has worked as an interior designer with Marty Sears Interiors. St. John’s has been a source of joy and strength for Alvie throughout life’s blessings and challenges. The church has nurtured her faith and her family abundantly, and she is honored to serve on the Vestry.
