the mendelssohn choir

The Mendelssohn Choir was founded in 1998 to create another community oratorio society in the Tampa area similar to the choral societies that developed in the 19th century in England.  It was named in honor of Felix Mendelssohn, the great German composer who had such a strong influence on music in Great Britain in the 19th century, and who is considered by many to have composed some of the most significant choral music of that, or any other era.  It was felt that such a group would fulfill a need, both in the Parish and in the larger community for a choir which specialized in oratorio and cantata performance. The members have come from Hillsborough, Pinellas and Pasco counties.

Applicants should either be able to read music or have a good ear for music. Applicants need to have a pleasant singing voice that blends well with others in the ensemble.  Auditions are by appointment. If you are interested in auditioning or know of someone who would be interested, please call Sharon Stoll, Music Secretary, at 813.259.1570 or via e-mail at sstoll@stjohnstampa.org.
