The Altar Guild
The Altar Guild members have the privilege of giving their time and talents to preparing the church for worship services, weddings, and funerals, as well as preparing the chapel for weekly services. Some members specialize in helping with weddings by attending rehearsals and being present the day of the wedding to assist the clergy and the bridal party in preparation for the ceremony. Other members serve once a month, at Christmas, and at Easter to create the beautiful flower arrangements for the church and chapel. Most of the Altar Guild volunteers serve one weekend a month to get the church and altar ready for Sunday services. They polish silver and brass vessels; fill candles with oil; vest the chalice that is put on the altar; place chalices, wine, wafers, water, and LEV kits on the credence table; arrange the celebrant’s chasuble; put hymn numbers on hymn boards; mark the readings in the Gospel and Lectionary; put out offering plates and bulletins; and prepare the font for baptisms. Some ladies also spend time at home washing, ironing, and mending altar linens and purificators.
