Friends of Uganda, Kamaiba Primary School and Bishop Masereka Christian Foundation (BMCF) Medical Clinic

The relationship between St. John's and the BMCF began in the autumn of 2003 with a visit from Bishop Zebedee and Mrs. Stella Masereka. Kamaiba Primary School (PS), in Kasese became a “sister school” to St. John's Episcopal Parish Day School. In November 2010, the Bishop returned to Tampa with a report from the school and to raise funds a future medical center. Mission teams from St. John’s have met and worked with clinic staff, teachers and students in Kasese. Students continue to be sponsored by St. John’s,
and more work has been accomplished with the BMCF to further develop the services available to HIV/AIDS orphan students and families. In the summer of 2011, the University of South Florida’s College of Public Health (CoPH) sent a four-person student team to partner with the BMCF medical clinic and work with Uganda colleagues to explore outreach programs focusing on maternal and child health issues. Included was a visit to Kamaiba PS. This is an evolving relationship with USF’s CoPH. Mission team members, other interested parishioners and school parents meet on a monthly basis as part of the Outreach Committee to support the work of our Uganda missions and ministry.
