Children's Ministry

Children's Ministry in St. John's realizes that the children will only be the church of tomorrow if they are the church of     today. Therefore, we provide a variety of ways for children to become involved in the life of the parish to help them form habits that will last a lifetime.

Through Children's Chapel, Sunday School, community outreach, international outreach, special activities, and much more, our children come to know the joy of God's love for us. Many people are involved in this ministry and these same volunteers sacrifice time and energy for our children, however children only benefit from these teachings and gatherings if they participate on a regular basis. It is important for the children to be a part of their own community within our parish, and this is accomplished through regular attendance.

Children's Chapel is a time for children age 3 years old through 3rd grade to engage in age appropriate lesson, discussion and story time and to continue to build their community by engaging their minds, while getting to know one another. The Chapel service is held in the parish hall. The children will exit the main sanctuary at the hymn of praise, please look for the cross in front, to the right of the lectionary podium for the gathering location, and the children will return to the sanctuary during the exchange of peace. Children 4th grade and older are encouraged to assist in children's chapel by helping with crafts, snacks, or story telling.

Children's Sunday School takes place during the Christian Education time of 10:20 -11:05 a.m. on Sundays. We use Weaving God's Promises, curriculum by Moorehouse Publishing. It teaches the way of Christ in church and in the world. It is a solid preparation for our young people to enter youth group which in turn prepares for adulthood. We foster spiritual formation and growth of our children in Christ's love and mercy. We teach the spirit of forgiveness and reconciliation to send them out in to the world as Christ's ambassadors. We do this through story telling, arts and crafts, skits, laughter and much more. Classes correspond to school grade levels. Please send your child to the appropriate class based on their current grade level or in conjunction with when they expect to enter kindergarten.

It will be help Monday through Thursday 9-12. On Thursday night, the VBC participants and their families will gather for a pot-luck in the parish hall so the children can share with their families all they learned, created and new friends made throughout the week.
