Acolytes
Acolytes play an important role in the life of the Church by serving at the altar on Sunday and for other special services during the year. Through training and serving, young acolytes develop a disciplined approach to Christian prayer and service, and a deep sense of the importance of liturgy in the life of a Christian. To become an acolyte at St. John’s Church, a young person must be in the sixth grade or above and have a sincere desire to serve during the liturgy. Acolytes complete a thorough training program of five to eight sessions of approximately one hour each. After this initial training, and after serving for four to six months, acolytes undergo advanced training to learn additional skills.
